And Then There Was One…

I’ve heard a lot of great Genesis covers, but this single-handed version of “Supper’s Ready” has got to take the prize.

It is yet more evidence that Canada is a prog paradise… O, Canada! Land of Rush.

Okay, maybe I should have called this post, “And Then There Were Two,” because although it is a one man band doing all the instruments,  the vocals are done by a second dude.

But I wanted to emphasize the insanely great instrumental skills on display in this video…

If they were a bit older I’d say it was members of the Montreal-based tribute band The Musical Box (or, for the Francophones, Le Boite Musique). Their stock in trade is complete recreations, as in music, theatrics, lights, everything, 42, of Genesis concerts from Nursery Cryme through to Trick. When they did the Lamb, Peter Gabriel allowed them to use the original slides that were rear-projected as a triptych behind the band and helped them with the costume designs as well as how to properly mike the Slipperman outfit.

Saw the Lamb show in Montreal at least 16 years ago (pre-kid) and it was spell-binding. A quick view of their website shows they’re still at it. If you love Genesis and they come close to you, go.
