A Little Oingo Boingo for Halloween

Oingo Boing, Dead Man’s Party, 1985.

I’ve toyed with the idea of writing an uber-long post about Oingo Boingo over the past two years.  Obviously, I’ve never actually taken the plunge.  Partly because–as fascinated as I am by the band, the more I read about them, the less I like them.  Yet, for thirty years now, I’ve come back to their music at least once if not twice a year.  So, it might still be a while before I write on how faux 1980s-California psychedelic New Wave grew into pure dark progressive rock by the early 1990s.

Someday, maybe.

But, as we approach All Hallows’ Eve, who can’t resist the following?  Enjoy.

  1. Haha,Excellent choice for Halloween Brad!!! I never really got “into” Oingo-Boingo back in the early 80’s when they first appeared. NOT because of their music being “bad” if You will, but at that time,”new-wave” had MORE than established itself and Oingo-Boingo pretty much sounded like all the OTHERS did,so I didn’t pay it much mind at the time. I watched the video’s above and Ahhhhhh,I actually “missed” that techy,new-wave-eletronica 80’s sound!!! Lol. Nice Blog Brad.

    1. Thanks, Drew. They were such a part of my 1980s–not at the level of Rush, but close. Fun to go back and listen to them. I do think they had incredible potential to transcend their beginnings, but Elfman, understandably, found his success in Hollywood.
