He’s baaaaack…
The musician also said he’s planning a new solo album and a tour. His last studio album was 2010′s collection of Motown covers, “Going Back.” Before that, he briefly reformed with Genesis in 2007 and released a solo album, “Testify,” in 2002.
He warned Genesis fans not to get their hopes up, though. Collins wants to see how the solo tour goes first.

Phil is showing enormous courage. The photo of the kit assembled from various cocktail and spirit glasses indicate his has faced his demons and is in a position now where he can laugh them down. Similarly, the updated photos on the covers of Face Value and Both Sides are extremely powerful showing both the passage of time, the road travelled and the facing of our own mortality. I salute you, Phil Collins and hope to see you on stage in Australia in time…

I would get excited, but then I remember that Phil Collins rejected creating good music in favor of top 40 garbage, which is essentially what all Genesis music after “And Then There Were Three” is, as well as his solo work. Maybe I’m being too harsh, but there should be some kind of award for someone that can almost singlehandedly destroy one of the greatest bands in history. Sure, Rutherford and Banks went along with it, but the more I listen to “good” Genesis, the more I am convinced that Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett were the true geniuses in that band. It just gives me more appreciation for bands like Rush who never sold out to the industry.

Haha, now it’s MY TURN to say “well-said” Bryan!!! As I’ve always loved Phil’s drumming-style,starting of course………when he started with Genesis!!! However,as time went on,and HE was moved to the roll of “lead-singer”,despite him STILL taking charge of his drumming-duties in the group,he started to branch-out more and MORE,into that “lead-singer” roll, than he did with his drumming!!! And Yes,that’s about the time, all the “top-40” stuff, started to emerge!!! On the OTHER-HAND………..Peter-Gabriel’s career, started to follow along those lines as well, with HIS “pop” music!!! (C’mon,MOST people that KNOW Peter-Gabriel,will say “Yup,I LOVED “Sledgehammer”!!! Lol.)
All in all…………The EARLY Genesis,is what DEFINED “Prog-music”!!! Along with the likes of Rush,Yes,etc. My POINT to all this is……………Despite Phil’s later recordings (both with Genesis and his solo-work),I STILL admire him as a musician and even MORE SO,as a DRUMMER!!! ~Peace~

No one has ever made Tony Banks do anything he didn’t want to do. I wouldn’t say Tony (or Mike for that matter) “went along” with Phil’s muse. All three of them created a new sound for Genesis, post-And Then There Were Three. Whether one likes it or not is another thing. But it was certainly not a Phil-dominated creation.
