Thanks for the comments about us versus Amazon.
Firstly, no we’ll never be able to compete with them. That’s partly due to scale but also because, unlike Amazon, we pay all of our taxes on top of trying to pay our staff a decent wage. In that regard it is not a level playing field.
Nevertheless, we are often cheaper than them on new releases because the ‘free’ delivery is built into the cost of the item or the Amazon Prime fee (there’s no such thing as a free lunch after all).
Packages shipped from one side of the Atlantic to the other will by post always take a week or so. Other than sending everything by courier (at great cost) there’s not much we can do about that, sorry, but we do try to ship as far ahead of release date as possible.
I don’t agree that our postage charges are a ‘bit of a rip off’. International postage is expensive and we charge £3.08 for a CD in a card mailer which is less than Royal Mail’s standard Airmail tariff (£3.30) as we pass on our volume discount to customers.
We’re always looking for cheaper ways to send things though and if we can do it we will.
I hope you’ll continue to give us a go on those occasions where we have something Amazon don’t.

I really like Burning Shed and get their emails. I have not been buying much though, being in the US and a bit of a slacker at times, but I am glad they’re there and will buy from them!

Those prices have come down since I last ordered from Burning Shed Pete. But they also do not use recorded delivery so therefore 2nd class post to send a CD costs £1.26 and £1.40 for 1st Class via Royal Mail if you use recorded delivery it’s £2.36 2nd class and £2.50 for 1st Class. OK then you have the price of the packaging, But I am sure Burning Shed would not be as stupid not to have an account with the Royal Mail or any other mail service where it works out even cheaper on an annual basis than those prices.
Most likely the reason why your postage is higher is down to the size of the packaging you use, and I do know that Burning Shed use better quality packaging on that score. But genially I never have a problem with Amazon’s packaging and if something is broke, it’s easy enough to send it back and get it replaced, and that also only takes a day to do as well in most cases via phoning them up.
To be honest I was a bit harsh saying Burning Shed was a rip off and that was not nice and I apologise sincerely Pete. I do like Burning Shed but like I said I use Amazon mainly because I am a Prime Member and for speed nobody can touch Amazon on that score.
And yes you are right regarding that Amazon do also cater for the P&P in a lot of the items they sell but I do still find a lot of CD’s cheaper on Amazon and most old CD’s you will get for around £5 – £8 and most new CD’s are generally around £10 so I do find Amazon still cheaper on that score.
But of course I shall still use Burning Shed on the occasions Amazon does not work for me to order my music from no doubt, and I do love the emails they send keeping me up to date with what’s new and being re-released.
