Anderson and Stolt!

After watching Transatlantic close Progressive Nation at Sea 2014 with Tales from the Topographic Oceans with Jon Anderson himself on stage for the finale, it doesn’t surprise me that Jon and Roine have been collaborating. However, Jon’s casual bomb dropping that this truly is a thing and that we’re going to be graced with the music this summer couldn’t have me any more excited. This is the kinda thing that’s right up my alley.

Sonus Corona – Sonus Corona

Just when I thought all of the fresh talent in prog metal was hiding towards the more extreme side of the spectrum, I am introduced to this band, the Finnish quintet Sonus Corona. Although I was expecting Sonus Corona to fall into the same rut of Dream Theater or Symphony X that so many melodic […]

New Progressive Metaphysical Fantasy Rock Opera by Schooltree

Schooltree, a progressive rock band from Boston, has just released their 30 day Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming double album rock opera- Heterotopia.  They have worked vigorously over the last 3 years, and you can tell just by watching this video that this is going to be something really special.

Rewards include digital downloads, including an illustrated libretto, a limited edition beautifully packaged double disc CD,  T-shirts, and a very special limited hardcover print of the illustrated libretto.

In 2013, Schooltree released their debut album “Rise”, which was in my top 10 albums for 2013.  You can check out the album in its entirety on their Bandcamp page: https://schooltree.bandcamp.com/album/rise

Please support this great young band and share their Kickstarter page with everyone who loves prog-rock as well as just plain ‘o good music!  Click on the “K” in the top left of the video to go to the Kickstarter page.

Andy Tillison Solo News: Durch

[This (below the graphic) from Sally Collyer–the wonderful and incredible Sally Collyer, progarchy’s previous PROG HUMAN OF THE YEAR.  I will admit, I’m secretly hoping that Andy’s new album, DURCH, is really a tribute of some kind to Geddy Lee–BB]

Everyone who’s bought the album so far will have music to listen to – around an hour’s worth of this album which has turned out very different to that foreseen… My apologies for lack of presence here on FB of late, this is a personal choice – to make me concentrate on work!!

If you have ordered DURCH please check the email you used to place the order tomorrow evening. If you haven’t received a mail from me by Thursday, then please PM me here on Facebook.

On a different note (a lot of different notes) I have been asked by Progzilla to do a Keith Emerson tribute broadcast which I have of course graciously accepted. News of that shortly.

Very best to all
Andy

Negativity and Keith Emerson

Two things that confuse, perplex, and worry me in this world: depression and suicide.  In no way would I ever consider myself above such things or not harassed by such demons.  But, obviously, I’ve never allowed (the right word?) either to plague me enough so that I’m not typing this at the moment.

Rest in Peace, Keith.

Ray Bradbury—who probably felt almost nothing but highs most of his life—once claimed that the worst thing an artist can do after experiencing a strong emotion is express it verbally.  Instead, the artist should allow it to become the inspiration for whatever art he/she is at the moment creating.

Thunderstone – Apocalypse Again – Album Review

Artist: Thunderstone Album Title: Apocalypse Again Label: AFM Records Date Of Release: 1 April 2016 The Blog Of Much Metal seems to have been inundated with albums that have a strong power metal influence recently.
